01 - Wakey Wakey |
Wakey Wakey (© Hazel O'Connor / Cormac De Barra)
Beating down my window pane
The rhythm of the rain
Oh its pouring
Just another hurricane called Katrina or Jane
I call it a warning
Science experts in the pay of greedy corporations say
Fossil fuels are not to blame
No need to change
Wakey wakey everyone
We been sleeping too long
Sold our birth right for a very very cheap song
Its just another hurricane
Bury your head in a computer game
Drive your own car
You can be a star
Twittering on about who you are
On your facebook page
Oh you are all the rage
Welcome to a brave new world
Its here for the taking
Thieves in charge
Reality stars
Presidents in waiting
Trail our tears revisited
Over and over again
Viruses and pesticides
GM food fracking their way to our insides
Wakey wakey everyone
Been sleeping too long
Sold our birth right for a very very cheap song
Whats another hurricane
Bury your head in some computer game
Driving your car
You can be a star
Twittering on about who you are
On your facebook page
We are all the rage
War was good for business
Um terror too
Selling harm to both sides
Building your walls
Whats another hurricane
Bury your head in some computer game
Driving your car
You can be a star
Twittering on about who you are
Its just another hurricane
Bury your head in some computer game
Driving your car
You can be a star
Twittering on about who you are
On your facebook page
Oh you're all the rage
On your facebook page
You're a facebook page

02 - Cuts Too Deep |
Cuts Too Deep (© Hazel O'Connor)
Daylight, slowly creeping through the crack in the curtains
and it suddenly reminded me I didn't sleep all night
It's just the thought of you I'll swear
Lyin' in the fatal position
How can I sleep?
How can I sleep when it cuts too deep?
It cuts too deep
Take a handfull of magic
Weigh it up on the scales
of the wrong place, the wrong time
Take one body of a memory
of a bright bright eyes
I can't erase from my mind
Oh, take one girl who said yeah
I can handle it, in the voice of a child
Does that child weep?
Does that weep
No it cuts too deep
It cuts too deep
Yeah well, I've cried in the morning
and I've cried at night
I've stamped on the pain of too much longing
I've cried in the morning
and I've cried at night
now it' all done
now it's all done
All the dreams I've dreamed
I shall dream again eternally speaking
Just now the face of eternity
looks blank into the face of time
It's just the thought of you
lying in that naked position
Oh, how could I speak?
How could I speak when it cuts too deep
It cuts too deep
Oh, it cuts too deep
It cuts too deep...

03 - One More Try |
One More Try (© George Michael)
I've had enough of danger
And people on the streets
I'm looking out for angels
Just trying to find some peace
Now I think it's time
That you let me know
So if you love me
Say you love me
But if you don't just let me go...
'Cos teacher
There are things that I don't want to learn
And the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
When you were just a stranger
And I was at your feet
I didn't feel the danger
Now I feel the heat
That look in your eyes
Telling me no
So you think that you love me
Know that you need me
I wrote the song, I know it's wrong
Just let me go...
And teacher
There are things
That I don't want to learn
Oh the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
So when you say that you need me
That you'll never leave me
I know you're wrong, you're not that strong
Let me go
And teacher
There are things
That I still have to learn
But the one thing I have is my pride
Oh so I don't want to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because there ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Who just isn't willing to try
I'm so cold
Inside
Maybe just one more try...

04 - Spancil Hill |
Spancil Hill (Traditional)
One night as he lay dreaming of pleasant days gone by
His mind being bent on rambling to lreland he did fly
he stepped on a vision and he followed with the wind
when at last he came to anchor at the cross of Spancil Hill
Then on the 23rd of June the day before the fair
When Ireland's sons and daughters and
friends assembled there
The young and the old, the brave and
the bold came their duties to fulfill
At the Parish Church in Clooney a mile from Spancil Hill
He went to see his neighbours to see how they did fare
The old ones were all dead and gone
the young ones turning grey
He met with tailor Quigley he's as funny as ever still
Johnny used to patch his britches
when he lived in Spancil Hill
He paid a flying visit to his one and only love
She's as gentle as a puppy and as pretty as a doll
She threw her arms around me saying
Johnny I love you still
Sure she's Ned the farmer's daughter and the pride of Spancil Hill
He dreamt he held, he kissed her as many a time before
Oh Johnny you're only joking as many a time before
The cock he crowed in the morning he crowed
both clear and shrill
He awoke in California many miles from Spancil Hill

05 - Could Be With Me |
Could Be With Me (© Hazel O'Connor / S. Hausmann)
Here's the doorway
We could say goodnight or goodbye
There's a chill in the air makes me feel
like you just didn't care
I wonder why?
Inside warm memories, a fire has burned so bright
Outside the storm rages, I want to come
into the warmth
Of your light
In the heat of the night we were shiny
In the heat of the night we were free
In the heat of the night we burned so bright
And oh
You could be with me
Well that was last night
And this is today
And the words in my mouth
I just can't spit it out
What I really, really need to say
To say if you want me
You gotta to really, really let me know
And if you can't be sure what we're doing this for
I believe that it's time to go
In the heat of the night we were shiny
In the heat of the night we were free
In the heat of the night we burned so bright
And oh
You could be with me

06 - Hidden |
Hidden (© Hazel O'Connor Mike Bennett)
I walked the path the winding road
That told me things that shouldn't be told
I climbed the rock of ages old
And I saw
Hearts and souls of humanity
Earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Left all their words
That were passed on for free
Tell me how were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long
You talk in awe of wonders and fears
And listen intently but never quite hear
You sold the rock of ages old
And you cry
Hearts and souls of humanity
The earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Began with the word
That was passed on for free
Tell me how were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
How were they hidden so long
Been so long
I walked the path the winding road
That told me things that shouldn't be told
I climbed the rock of ages old
And you cried
Hearts and souls of humanity
Earth and the air
The sky and the sea
Left all their words
That were passed on for free
Tell me
How were they hidden
How were they hidden
How how
How were they hidden so long

08 - I'll See You Again |
I'll See You Again (© Hazel O'Connor Cormac De Barra)
In my heart, in my soul
In my darkest hours
Through rivers deep
Lonely roads over mountain towers
Through the driving rain and the sunlit plains
It's you I embrace
From the echo on the wind
Its your song they sing
It says
I'll see you again
I'll see you again
Another door, another hall
Another lonely room
I light a candle to your name
Hoping to lift the gloom
I run my fingers through your hair
And your almost there
As play through your hair
And whatever comes my way
I'll survive siné
And
I'll see you again
I'll see you again
Through the driving rain and the sunlit plains
It's you I embrace
And whatever comes way
I'll survive siné
I said
I'll see you again
I said
I'll see you again
And
I'll see you again
I'll see you again

09 - Who Will Care |
Who Will Care (© Hazel O'Connor)
Did she wake up cold and alone
Hoping someone might phone
Did she crawl out of bed, scratch her head
Look in the mirror and think she was dead
Who will care
Who will care
Did she thrown on her clothes
And walk slowly to the door
Go into town hoping to score
Did she find her a man
He'd give her all he can
And when that's not enough
Then life starts to get tough
Who will care
Who will care
Did she die in the cold
Was she scared to be old
Nobody knows where and old loner goes
At the end of the line
And on one grey day
Some children at play
Saw her still body
Thought it was funny
Oh look at that lady on the ground fast asleep
Nobody knew her so nobody weeps
Who will care
Who will care
Did she die in the cold
Was she scared to be old
Nobody knows where and old loner goes
At the end of the line
Did she wake up cold and alone
Hoping someone might phone
Did she fall out of bed, scratch her head
Look in the mirror and know she was dead
Who will care

10 - Skibbereen |
Skibbereen (Trad. arr. Hazel O'Connor)
Oh father dear I often hear you speak of Erin's Isle
Her lofty scenes, her valley's green, her mountains rude and wild
They say it is a lovely land wherein a prince might dwell
Oh why did you abandon it the reason to me tell
Oh well do I remember that bleak december day
The landlord and the sheriff came to drive us all away
He set my roof on fire, when my rent I could not find
And that's the cruel reason that I left it all behind
Your mother too, god rest her soul, she fell on snowy ground
She could not raise her body, seeing desolation around
She never rose but slipped away from life to mortal dream
And found a quiet grave my boy in dear old skibbereen
And you were only two years old and feeble was your frame
I could not leave you with my friends, you bore your father's name
I wrapped you in my cottamore, in the dead of night unseen
I heaved a sigh, and bade goodbye to dear old skibbereen
Oh father the day may come in answer to the call
Each irishmen with feeling stern will rally one and all
I'll be the man to lead the van beneath our flag of green
And loud and high we'll raise a cry remember skibbereen

11 - Redemption Song |
Redemption Song (© Bob Marley / Edwin Hawkins)
Old pirates, yes, they rob I,
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have,
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.
Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Some say it's just a part of it,
We've got to fulfill the book.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have,
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.
Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Some say it's just a part of it,
We've got to fulfill the book.
Won't you help to sing,
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever had,
Redemption songs.
All I ever had,
Redemption songs
These songs of freedom
Songs of freedom
